About the Author
Vernor Vinge (1944–2024) was an American science fiction author and mathematician who won the Hugo Award for Best Novel twice—for *A Fire Upon the Deep* (1993) and *A Deepness in the Sky* (2000)—plus a third time for *Rainbows End* (2007). He is also known for popularising the concept of the technological singularity.
