About the Author
Javaka Steptoe is an American author and illustrator of children's books born in New York City in 1971. He won the 2017 Caldecott Medal for *Radiant Child: The Story of Young Artist Jean-Michel Basquiat*, using found materials and bold mixed media. He is the son of celebrated illustrator John Steptoe.
