About the Authors
Banu Mushtaq is an Indian author who writes in Kannada, based in Karnataka. She won the 2025 International Booker Prize for *Heart Lamp: Selected Stories*, a collection of short stories exploring Muslim women's lives in South India. She has been writing and publishing since the 1980s and is also a lawyer and social activist.
Deepa Bhasthi is an Indian writer and translator based in Kodagu, Karnataka. She translated Banu Mushtaq's *Heart Lamp*, sharing the 2025 International Booker Prize. She writes criticism, essays, and fiction in English, and her translation work champions literature from South India and the Global South.
