About the Author
Itamar Vieira Junior is a Brazilian geographer, civil servant, and author from Salvador, Bahia. His novel *Crooked Plow* (*Torto arado*), shortlisted for the 2024 International Booker Prize, tells the story of two Black sisters on a quilombo (a community of formerly enslaved people) in the Brazilian backlands. It won every major literary prize in Brazil.
