About Wolf Erlbruch
Wolf Erlbruch is a German illustrator and author of picture books who won the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award in 2017. He is one of the most celebrated picture book illustrators in the world, known for his distinctive visual style — a mixture of collage, painting, and found imagery — and his willingness to address profound themes including death, fear, and love in books for children. His best-known works include Duck, Death and the Tulip (2007), The Story of the Little Mole Who Knew It Was None of His Business, and Mrs Meyer the Bird. Duck, Death and the Tulip was praised internationally for its tender and unsentimental approach to mortality. Erlbruch studied illustration at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen and has taught there for many years. He is based in Düsseldorf and Wuppertal, Germany.
