Simon Jimenez is an American author of literary science fiction and fantasy known for The Vanished Birds and The Spear Cuts Through Water. The Spear Cuts Through Water won the British Fantasy Award for Best Fantasy Novel in 2023. Jimenez was born in Gardena, California. The Spear Cuts Through Water is an audacious novel told in the style of an oral epic, following two warriors escaping a tyrant god across a fantastical world. It was praised for its experimental structure, mythic voice, and emotional depth. His debut The Vanished Birds was praised for its literary science fiction sensibility. Jimenez is regarded as one of the more distinctive new voices in speculative fiction.
