About Sarah J. Maas
Sarah Janet Maas (born March 5, 1986) is an American fantasy author whose work has sold more than 75 million copies worldwide and been translated into 40 languages. Born and raised on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, she began writing what would become her debut novel Throne of Glass at age sixteen, serializing chapters online before it was published professionally. She graduated magna cum laude from Hamilton College in 2008 with a degree in creative writing. Maas is the author of three major fantasy series. The Throne of Glass series (2012–2018), based loosely on the Cinderella story reimagined with an assassin protagonist, comprises eight novels and launched her career. A Court of Thorns and Roses (ACOTAR), beginning in 2015, is a romantic adult fantasy series inspired by the Beauty and the Beast fairy tale, set in a world of fae. The Crescent City series, beginning with House of Earth and Blood (2020), blends urban fantasy with mythology and has become one of the most commercially successful fantasy series of the 2020s. Maas is the most decorated author in the history of the Goodreads Choice Awards for Fantasy, having won the category seven times. Her work is often credited with popularizing the 'romantasy' subgenre—fantasy with central romantic plotlines—and with bringing millions of new readers to the fantasy genre through her emotionally intense, character-driven storytelling. She lives in Philadelphia with her family.
