Saidiya Hartman

Saidiya Hartman is an American author and professor born in 1960. She is the author of Scenes of Subjection (1997), Lose Your Mother (2007), and Wayward Lives, Beautiful Experiments (2019). Wayward Lives was shortlisted for the National Book Critics Circle Award and won the PEN/John Kenneth Galbraith Award for Nonfiction. Hartman is a professor at Columbia University's Department of English and Comparative Literature.
