R.J. Barker

R.J. Barker is a British author of epic fantasy known for the Wounded Kingdom trilogy and the Tide Child trilogy. He was nominated for the British Fantasy Award for Best Fantasy Novel for The Bone Ships (2020), the first Tide Child novel. Born in Leeds, Barker has spoken publicly about his struggles with mental health and chronic pain, and these experiences inform the empathetic, character-driven nature of his fiction. The Bone Ships is set in a world where the bones of sea dragons are the most precious commodity, and features a crew of criminals given an impossible mission. He is known for his warm, generous presence in the SF/F community and continues to live and write in Yorkshire.
