About Mia McKenzie

Mia McKenzie is an American author and activist whose novel Skye Falling (2021) won the Lambda Literary Award for Lesbian Fiction in 2022. McKenzie is also the founder of BGD (Black Girl Dangerous), a now-retired online magazine and publishing platform for queer and trans people of colour. Skye Falling is a novel about Skye, a Black queer woman in Philadelphia who discovers that the sperm donation she made years earlier has resulted in a daughter who wants to know her. The novel is funny, politically astute, and emotionally generous. McKenzie is also the author of The Summer We Got Free (2013), which won the Lambda Literary Award for Debut Fiction. She is a prominent voice in discussions of race, queerness, and representation in American culture.
