Kelly Barnhill is an American children's author born in 1973. She won the 2017 Newbery Medal for *The Girl Who Drank the Moon*, a lush fairy tale about a young girl raised by a witch, a monster, and a swamp dragon. She is also the author of *Iron Hearted Violet* and *The Witch's Boy*.
