About Katherine Addison
Katherine Addison is the pen name of American author Sarah Monette. She won the Locus Award for Best Fantasy Novel for The Goblin Emperor (2015). The Goblin Emperor is a beloved standalone fantasy novel about a young half-goblin who unexpectedly becomes emperor of an elvish realm and must navigate court politics entirely against his kind nature. Monette/Addison holds a PhD in English literature and has published extensively under both names. The Goblin Emperor was praised for its warmth, optimism, and its protagonist Maia's fundamental decency in the face of political hostility—a contrast to the grimdark trend dominant in fantasy at the time. She has continued writing as Katherine Addison, including the Witness for the Dead series, set in the same world as The Goblin Emperor. She lives in Madison, Wisconsin.
