About Jason Rekulak
Jason Rekulak is an American author and editor based in Philadelphia. He is the founder and publisher of Quirk Books, an independent Philadelphia publisher known for inventive genre mashups and illustrated fiction, and spent many years as its editorial director before transitioning more fully to writing. His debut novel Hidden Pictures (2022) is a supernatural horror novel about a young woman working as a nanny who begins to suspect that the child in her care is drawing images of real events—images that may be sent to him by a ghost. Hidden Pictures received widespread critical praise and strong commercial success, praised for its atmosphere, its clever structure (incorporating actual drawings throughout the text), and its deeply unsettling premise. The novel won the Goodreads Choice Award for Horror in 2022. Rekulak's follow-up novel, I Was a Teenage Slasher (2024), was also well received. As both an editor and an author, Rekulak has a deep knowledge of genre publishing and a distinctive ability to construct novels that are simultaneously literary and deeply entertaining. He continues to be involved with Quirk Books while pursuing his own fiction.
