About James S. A. Corey

James S. A. Corey is the joint pen name of American authors Daniel Abraham (born November 14, 1969) and Ty Franck (born 1970), collaborators who write the Expanse science fiction series together. Abraham, a New Mexico native, is also an acclaimed solo author of fantasy fiction including the Long Price Quartet. Franck served as an assistant to George R.R. Martin before collaborating with Abraham. The pen name combines both of their middle names. Together as James S. A. Corey, they created the Expanse series beginning with Leviathan Wakes (2011), a hard science fiction saga set in a future where humanity has colonized the solar system. The series ran to nine novels, concluding with Leviathan Falls (2021), and was adapted into the critically acclaimed television series The Expanse (Syfy/Amazon). The series is noted for its scientific plausibility, political complexity, and morally nuanced characters. Leviathan Falls (2021) won the Dragon Award for Best Science Fiction Novel, and the series overall has been nominated for Hugo Awards, Locus Awards, and numerous other honors. The Expanse is widely considered one of the defining science fiction series of the 2010s and early 2020s, praised for revitalizing hard SF for a new generation of readers. Both authors live in New Mexico.
