About Jacob Ross

Jacob Ross is a Grenadian-British novelist and short story writer born in Grenada in 1956. He studied in the UK and has lived in London for many years. He is also a writing tutor and mentor who has worked with numerous prize-winning British writers. His story collections include A Way to Catch the Dust (1999) and Tell No-One About This (2017). The Bone Readers (2016, Peepal Tree Press) is his debut novel, introducing Detective Michael Digger Digson, who investigates cases on the fictional Caribbean island of Camaho with a forensic and spiritual sensibility rooted in island culture. Part crime novel, part Caribbean Gothic, part postcolonial investigation, the book won the inaugural Jhalak Prize in 2017. Ross is one of the most important figures in Caribbean British literature and has been a tireless advocate for diverse voices in British publishing. A sequel, Black Rain Falling, was published in 2021.
