About Grahame Baker-Smith

Grahame Baker-Smith is a British illustrator and author of picture books who won the Kate Greenaway Medal in 2011 for FArTHER, a wordless picture book about a son who fulfils his father's dream of flight. Baker-Smith is known for his extraordinarily detailed and painterly illustrations, which blend a classic oil-painting style with digital techniques. FArTHER tells, without words, the story of a son watching his father's obsession with flight and eventually realising his father's dream. It was widely praised for the tenderness and beauty of its imagery. Baker-Smith has also illustrated books by other authors and creates book covers and editorial illustrations. He studied illustration at the Epsom School of Art and has been a professional illustrator for over thirty years.
