About Gayl Jones

Gayl Jones is an American novelist and poet born in Lexington, Kentucky, in 1949. Her debut novel Corregidora (1975) brought her immediate critical attention and was championed by Toni Morrison. After decades away from public life, her novel Palmares (2021) was shortlisted for the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award. She was also longlisted for the 2022 Booker Prize for The Birdcatcher. Jones is considered one of the most important voices in African-American literature.
