Derrick Barnes

Derrick Barnes is an American children's and young adult author born in Kansas City, Missouri in 1973. He received a 2018 Newbery Honor for *Crown: An Ode to the Fresh Cut*, illustrated by Gordon C. James, which also received a Caldecott Honor. The picture book celebrates the barbershop as a sacred space for Black boys.
