David Mitchell

David Mitchell is a British novelist known for structurally ambitious, interconnected works including Cloud Atlas (Booker Prize shortlisted, adapted into a 2012 film) and The Bone Clocks (World Fantasy Award winner, 2015). He is one of the most celebrated literary novelists working in the speculative tradition. Born in Southport, England in 1969, Mitchell taught English in Japan for eight years, an experience that shaped his fiction. Cloud Atlas (2004) is composed of six nested narratives spanning centuries, all interconnected through themes of reincarnation and human cruelty. The Bone Clocks, a fantasy thriller following a woman over sixty years, was praised for its scope and emotional power. He has also written number9dream, Ghostwritten, The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet, Utopia Avenue, and the translated Naoki Higashida memoirs. Mitchell lives in Ireland.
