Catherine Lacey

Catherine Lacey is an American author whose novel Biography of X (2023) won the Lambda Literary Award for Lesbian Fiction in 2024 and was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. Biography of X is a literary novel in the form of a fictional biography of a recently deceased provocateur artist known as X, set in an alternate United States where the South seceded. Lacey is also the author of Nobody Is Ever Missing (2014), The Answers (2017), and Pew (2021). Her work is characterised by its conceptual boldness, its psychological acuity, and its formal experimentation. Biography of X received widespread critical acclaim for its ambition and scope. She holds an MFA from Columbia University and lives in New York City.
