About Alan Garner

Alan Garner is a British author of fantasy and children's fiction born in Congleton, Cheshire, in 1934. His landmark novels The Weirdstone of Brisingamen (1960), The Owl Service (1967), and Red Shift (1973) are classics of British literature. Treacle Walker (2021) was shortlisted for the Booker Prize 2022. Garner studied classics at Magdalen College, Oxford. He was appointed OBE in 2001 and CBE in 2022.
