Akwaeke Emezi

Akwaeke Emezi is a Nigerian writer and artist. Their debut novel Freshwater (2018) was shortlisted for the Women's Prize for Fiction and the Lambda Literary Award, and won the Edinburgh First Book Award. They have published several novels including Pet (2019), The Death of Vivek Oji (2020), and You Made a Monster Out of Me (2024). Emezi is known for their genre-crossing work and frank explorations of Igbo cosmology, queerness, and identity.
